Washi (Japanese paper) originally came from China and Japanese started to produce in 610. Washi was also used a lot for wall or window. Washi can adjust humidity in the house, adsorb bad smells, cut ultraviolet rays, and be good for eyes. Washi is also eco friendly, because material plant grows quickly and it needs much less chemicals to make. The paper with beautiful pattern is called Yuzenshi. It’s started to produce 130 years ago, and the pattern came from Japanese Kimono (traditional clothes).
Mizuhiki is an ancient Japanese art form that uses a special cord. The cord is created from rice paper, that is tightly wound, starched to give it stiffness, and then colored. The ways of coloring include brightly colored Mylar (a very thin plastic), thin strands of silk, or simply painted. The art form was used to tie up the hair of the samurai.
